Syria says constitution approved; scores of deaths are reported

Syrian officials say voters overwhelmingly approved a new constitution backed by President Bashar Assad. Meanwhile, the opposition reports a massacre in Homs.

Syrian authorities said Monday that almost 90% of voters had approved a controversial, government-backed new draft constitution, while an opposition group reported that a massacre had left scores dead in the conflict-torn western city of Homs.
