Journalist injured in Homs to fly home to France
Edith Bouvier, who was wounded in a rocket attack in Syria, is expected to leave hospital in Beirut on Friday
A French journalist who was wounded in Syria last week is receiving treatment in Beirut and is expected to fly home later in the day, a senior Lebanese security official has said.
The official said Edith Bouvier was smuggled across the Lebanese-Syrian border and arrived at a Beirut hospital after midnight on Thursday.
She was wounded in a rocket attack during the Syrian troops’ onslaught on a rebel stronghold in Homs. The attack killed two journalists and wounded two others.
The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, said Bouvier and journalist William Daniels of France had been successfully smuggled into Lebanon.
The Lebanese official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, says a French plane is to take Bouvier home later on Friday. He did not elaborate on Daniels’ plans.
