Arab leaders call for new effort on Syria

The Arab League asks the U.N. to create a joint peacekeeping force in the country to oversee a prospective cease-fire. Meanwhile, Al Qaeda’s leader voices support for the Syrian rebels.

Arab leaders meeting in Cairo on Sunday called for a renewed United Nations attempt to help halt violence in Syria, asking the Security Council to create a joint Arab-U.N. peacekeeping force to oversee implementation of a prospective cease-fire.
