al-Sadr: US, UK & Israel ‘common enemies of Iraq’
Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr has called the US, UK and Israel ‘common enemies of Iraq’ during his first speech since returning from four years of self-imposed exile. Thousands of supporters gathered to hear him urge the rejection of what he called the US occupation. Sadr’s return from Iran comes a month after his movement won 39 seats in Iraq’s newly formed parliament. He gained widespread popularity among Shias after the 2003 US-led invasion.
