Video: Last UK troops pull out of Iraq

The British military operation in Iraq has ended after more than 8 years, with the last group of Royal Navy training staff now having pulled out. The UK joined the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, under the pretext of destroying Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction. But when WMDs were never found, the war fell out of favour with the British public, even more so with the death of 179 soldiers during the conflict. Most of the UK’s military forces withdrew two years ago. Some experts say they failed to make Iraq a safer place – with terror attacks still happening there on a regular basis.
